2015 GLADYS COOK SCHOLARSHIP

The DeKalb County Council of PTAs Scholarship Program began in May 1962 with the presentation of a $200.00 Scholarship to a Cross Keys High School student. The scholarship program was named for Mrs. Gladys Cook, president of the DeKalb County Council from 1960-1962, in recognition of her work in the establishment of this program. It was originally established for graduating seniors who planned to enter the teaching profession, and who agreed to teach at least one year in DeKalb
County after completing their college education.

In 1977, the criteria was changed and contributions were enough to allow one graduating senior from each DeKalb County high school to be eligible to compete for this scholarship, as well as having the option of pursuing a variety of formal education programs.

The majority of our scholarship program is funded by the generous contributions of our local PTAs and the DeKalb County Employee Foundation. We also accept donations from individuals, businesses and corporations.

Eligibility:

1. A graduating senior from a DeKalb County, Georgia high school
2. The graduating senior must be a member of their school PTA/PTSA
  • The sponsoring PTA/PTSA must be in good standing
  • The sponsoring PTA/PTSA must have contributed to the Gladys Cook Scholarship Fund (suggested minimum of $100.00)
3. The student applicant can not have any disciplinary infractions during the 11th and 12th grades and have a minimum GPA of 3.00.
